Pre-Production and Planning
New Wave Brighton was a documentary made last year that outlines the history of Brighton with a specific focus on the LGBTQ+ history of the city and the Mods and Rockers. It was a second year University project and a collaboration between me and five others. I took a prominent role in researching the topic as I was presenting the documentary alongside one of my coursemates. I also sourced interviewees for us by contacting a local free magazine.
Execution and Challenges
The production process went smoothly, we filmed on location at a pub for the main presenting parts and then in the University TV studio for the interviews. We had some challenges with lighting in the pub but wanted a warm and vintage look for the presenting parts so this worked fairly well. One main challenge was in the editing as there was a light reflection on one of the photographs that I had to mask out.
Final Result and Reflection
Overall, I was happy with the final result and we as a group collaborated very effectively. I really enjoyed the presenting side of things which is something I had not done before but is definitely something I would do again!
