Pre-Production and Planning
To start off the project we were given an artist profile and some art work for us to base the visuals of the video on. We made a moodboard and planned shooting locations, then shared this with the client to ensure it was in keeping with his vision for the video.
Execution and Challenges
We shot most of the video on location around Shoreham, we chose Shoreham as it offered a dystopian landscape of urban decay and over-industrialisation. We combined these images with some shots that were taken around urban areas of Brighton and some still images provided by the artist. After filming was finished we decided to split the song up into parts allowing us all to edit small sections of the video as opposed to one person doing it all. However, this presented the challenge of maintaining consistent visuals that flowed together so the video felt cohesive and not like six separate videos cobbled together. We ensured this by keeping in consistent communication through production meetings and regularly reviewing one another's work.
Final Result and Reflections
Overall, I was very happy with the final result as was the client. We also received positive feedback from the client as well as receiving a positive review from Mark Soye which can be seen here on my testimonials page. The project was great fun to be a part of, it was something entirely different to any work I had done before and allowed for a lot of creative freedom. The way we collaborated was also something entirely different than anything I had done before but it ended up being very effective.
